Northern Ireland dairy cooperative Dale Farm expanded its Dunman facility with a £70 million investment to increase cheddar production while maintaining day-to-day operations.
Working with Tetra Pak, Dale Farm implemented a complete second cheddar processing line incorporating milk pasteurisation, cheese vats, cheddaring, block forming, tanks and storage equipment, alongside a whey processing station covering pasteurisation, filtration and separation.
The project also introduced a new automation system designed to provide greater plant visibility, improve usability for operators and generate more production data for ongoing performance improvements.
Through close collaboration between Dale Farm, its construction partner and Tetra Pak, the project was completed ahead of schedule without disrupting production.
Dale Farm brought its first cheese from the new line to market three weeks ahead of schedule.
