Researchers from the University of Arkansas have secured nearly $1 million in USDA-NIFA funding to investigate sustainable protein and methionine alternatives for organic poultry production.

The project evaluates insects and other novel feed ingredients as practical nutritional solutions for organic poultry farms, where the use of synthetic amino acids is highly restricted.

Improving natural methionine availability could significantly reduce production costs while supporting bird health and productivity.

The research brings together university scientists, USDA researchers, and agricultural partners to address one of the poultry industry's most important nutrition challenges.

Findings from the project are expected to contribute to more sustainable feeding strategies while supporting organic producers with science-based solutions that improve flock performance and environmental sustainability.
