The Cyber Breach and Insurance Blind Spot Every Seafood, Dairy, Meat, Poultry and Food Producer Must Address
An executive briefing from CSAFI, the Cybersecurity Association of the Food Industry
In the food industry, a cyber breach is no longer an IT problem. It is a production, insurance and board problem.
Join Scott Alldridge, a leading authority on cybersecurity for executives and boards, for a 45-minute strategic briefing convened by CSAFI. You will leave knowing where your organization is genuinely exposed, whether your insurance would actually pay after an attack, and the decisions only leadership can make.

$11M
ransom paid after one attack halted a fifth of US beef processing
200+
ransomware attacks a year now absorbed by food and agriculture
$4.2M
estimated cost of every hour of downtime in food manufacturing
Why now
The threat has already reached the food industry's largest names.
In 2021, a single ransomware attack took roughly one-fifth of US beef processing offline overnight, and the company paid an eleven million dollar ransom to restore operations. When NotPetya swept through global manufacturers, one food giant’s one hundred million dollar insurance claim was denied outright under an act-of-war exclusion.
These are not edge cases. The question is no longer whether your organization will be tested — it is whether you are ready when it is.
The insurance blind spot
The coverage gap most leaders do not see until it is too late.
Cyber insurance has quietly changed. Insurers now write coverage on the condition that specific controls are in place — and they are denying claims, and even voiding policies, when those conditions are not met. In one 2022 case, an insurer rescinded a policy in full after discovering the business had misstated its use of multi-factor authentication.
Most food organizations have never measured their policy against what they actually have in place. This session shows you how to close that gap before you ever need to file a claim.
What you take away
What you will walk away with
Five things you can act on in the same week.
- 01
Where you are genuinely exposed
A clear, executive-level read on your real exposure — in business terms, not technical ones.
- 02
Whether your claim would actually be paid
The specific reasons insurers deny food-sector cyber claims, and how to make certain yours is not one of them.
- 03
How to keep production running
Protecting output and your supply chain when — not if — an attacker gets inside.
- 04
The seven questions your board will ask
What every executive and board must be able to answer about cyber risk today, and a framework to answer them.
- 05
Where you stand against the standard
A benchmark against what the industry, and your insurer, now expect of you.
You will leave able to lead this conversation with your team, your board and your insurer — rather than react to it.
