CSAFI Australia Appoints Nigel Newbury as CEO
Leading the charge to secure Australia’s food and beverage sector through expert governance and practical, plant-ready cybersecurity.

We are proud to announce that Nigel Newbury has joined the Cybersecurity Association of the Food Industry (CSAFI) as CEO of Australia.
Nigel is a distinguished technology leader with over 40 years of experience delivering large-scale enterprise systems across critical infrastructure, mining, and the food and beverage sectors. His appointment marks a pivotal step in CSAFI’s mission to strengthen the cybersecurity maturity of Australia’s food producers, processors, and cold-chain networks.
A Pragmatic Leader for a Critical Industry
Nigel brings a unique OT-grounded approach to cybersecurity. Having spent decades working directly with plant automation, industrial data, and supply-chain systems, he understands that cybersecurity in the food industry isn’t just about IT—it is about protecting production lines, ensuring food safety, and maintaining the integrity of the supply chain.
Key Priorities for CSAFI Australia
Under Nigel’s leadership, CSAFI Australia will focus on:
• Accelerate cyber resilience: Ensure food security for Australians and protect the food sector from emerging cyber threats. • Rapid Intelligence Sharing: Turning industry incidents into anonymized, actionable insights to keep producers ahead of threats. • OT Security Benchmarking: Through playbooks, "secure-by-design" checklists for equipment procurement and supply chain risk management. • Industry Unity: Forging deep partnerships between the food industry, technology providers, academia and government agencies. • Board-Level Clarity: Translating complex technical risks into outcome-focused guidance for executives and directors. "Nigel’s expertise in complex systems architecture and engineering data management allows him to bridge the gap between the factory floor and the boardroom. His vision ensures that our sector remains secure, competitive, and future-ready."
